ABOUT

I’m a committed author-advocate, with a deep understanding of the many joys and challenges of publishing. Over two decades, I’ve acquired, edited, and published over 200 books, spoken at writers’ conferences across the US, scouted for books at the Frankfurt and London Book fairs, and worked with countless authors and agents. In 2008, I completed the Stanford Professional Publishing Course and in 2019 I earned a certificate in copyediting.

I started as an intern for the legendary editor Gordon Lish at Alfred A. Knopf. From there I went on to become the managing editor of Lish’s literary magazine, The Quarterly. After a short stint in Prague, I landed at Chronicle Books in San Francisco where I spent twelve years editing illustrated nonfiction.

Until 2021, I was a founding editor of Lake Union Publishing, the book club imprint of Amazon Publishing, where I acquired and edited over 150 titles in the categories of historical fiction, contemporary fiction, suspense, and family drama. Twelve of my books hit the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post bestseller lists and three of my books were shortlisted for the Goodreads Choice Awards. In 2017, a suspense novel I acquired and edited, Grievance, won the International Thriller Award.

My career has taken me to the near and far corners of the publishing world—from small literary magazines to mid-size publishers to one of the largest publishing houses. I’m also married to a writer, which has given me keen perspective on both sides of the business. In my spare time I’m an avid reader and a bit obsessed with keeping up with publishing news. I live in Seattle with my husband, son, and two cats that completely ignore me.
